Description
An offbeat and hilarious road trip story about three Pakistani-American teenagers, on a trip through the land of pork ribs, mechanical bulls, and Confederate flags. It’s going to be quite an adventure.
Mariam is ready for a quiet summer break with her best friends: irrepressible and beautiful Ghazala and religious but closeted Umar. That is, until Ghaz calls in a panic, begging for their help in making a speedy getaway from her furious family after her photo ends up on a billboard. What could be a better way to escape a community scandal than a road trip to New Orleans?
The drive through the deep South is hardly their families’ idea of respectable, with honky tonks and barbecue joints, alarming encounters at roadside diners, and sort-of-serious conversations about family and faith. The teens each have their own hard questions to answer on the road, but they know that they have each other’s backs no matter what—with a love for one another that is every bit as fierce as Umar’s inner drag queen.
