Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Customer Service.
  2. Support floor staff where needed with day-to-day tasks or with finding proper coverage as business demands;
  3. Act as Leader on Duty in order to meet and exceed daily sales goals;
  4. Maintain a constant feedback loop between teammates, leaders, and self;
  5. Relay pertinent information to Owner/Manager, such as scheduling, product feedback or innovations, as well as process improvements;
  6. Train Leads & Associates on café/kitchen techniques and standards, POS system use, and inventory control;
  7. Maintain and update standards as product assortment and business evolves;
  8. Ensure cleanliness and health code standards are consistently upheld;
  9. Maintain knowledge of upcoming events, high-level book processes (special orders, new release days, preorder campaigns, and giveaways), and general book stock;
  10. Handle inventory ordering for café and kitchen;
  11. Brainstorm new and creative events or ways to influence the café side of the business in conjunction with the Events Coordinator and Social Media Specialist;
  12. Handle and diffuse escalated customer and/or teammate situations;
  13. Opening/Closing the store (cashwrap closing/opening, petty cash count, doors closing/opening).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; and,
  • One (1) year experience in a bakery, café, or restaurant environment; and,
  • Supervisory role or some managerial experience; and,
  • Be able to converse about books.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory role or some managerial experience;
  • ServSafe Certified;
  • Fluent in Spanish a plus;
  • Experience with electronic cash registers, Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office software, and standard office equipment a plus.

  • Problem Solving Skills: Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information; develop alternative solutions; use reason even when dealing with emotional topics;
  • Professionalism: Ability to approach others in a tactful manner; react well under pressure; treat others with respect and consideration; accept responsibility for own actions; follow through on commitments; and
  • Productivity: Complete work in a timely manner and strive to increase productivity.

Working Conditions

  • Retail hours: Nights, weekends, early mornings and some holidays
  • Frequent need to lift at least fifty (50) pounds;
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time;
  • Frequent need for oral, written and auditory communication;
  • Frequent mobility to move about the kitchen and chocolatería; and
  • Frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions.
